3. Backup all essential data’s on your phone, to assure that there is no data loss during the process.
4. Disable all Security programs like Firewall and Antivirus from your computer and uninstall the same from your phone, as these security programs generally tend to interrupt the process.
5. Enable USB Debugging in your HTC Sensation/ XE from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. The option of USB Debugging should be ticked.

Steps and Procedure to Root HTC Sensation/ XE on Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich Firmware:

1. Download below three files into your computer.

  • Super user zip file package from here.
  • HTC All in One Rooting Tool Kit from here.
  • Latest clockworkmod cwm recovery manager from here.

2. Connect the phone with your PC via USB Cable. Copy the Superuser zip file into the root directory of your phone’s SD card. After that you must turn off the usb storage connection. Don’t unplug the device from the PC.

3. Make sure that you device must be in charging mode and also enable USB debugging mode in your device.

4. Now extract the HTC All in One Rooting Tool Kit zip file in your PC. Then double click on One X.exe application. Don’t worry although it was named as ‘One X’ it can support HTC Sensation Device too.

5. Firstly, you should unlock the Bootloader of your HTC Sensation/ XE, from the official HTC website htcdev.com. If you have already unlocked the Bootloader then skip this step. Else visit the website, click on the option “Unlock Bootloader” and then follow the on-screen instructions followed.

6. Run the One.exe application then you will get a toolkit window, there you can see multiple options. First select Install HTC drivers and Click on GO button. It will install compatible drivers for your device and ignore the popup messages.

7. After that rename the cmw recovery file name recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.0.9-pyramid.img to CWM5827.img which you have downloaded earlier into your PC. Then copy the renamed CWM5827.img file to the HTC One X toolkit folder/Data folder/recoveries and replace the one inside.

8. Select CWM 5.8.2.7 Touch and Click on Flash Recovery. It will install clockworkmod recovery mode on your device. The process will take 2 or 3 minutes don’t do anything while the process is going on.
9. Now it’s time select Boot into Recovery in Commands and click on Do Command. Then your device will enter into clockworkmod recovery mode automatically. You can also enter into recovery mode in manually by pressing the both Volume down key + power ON the device.
10. In recovery mode you can see “install zip from sd card”. Select it and choose the superuser zip file which you copied earlier into phone sd card.

11. The installation will complete in few minutes, and then reboot your phone.

Note: If you are not successful in rooting of your phone, you will have to follow the procedure mentioned above once again.

That’s it; you have successfully rooted your HTC Sensation/ XE on the official Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich Firmware. Share with us if you have any doubts, we will let you know a proper solution for the same.

  4. @Shenoy: Do you mean to say that there is no beats audio in this? Then how come it is an official ics release for sensation xe?
And I would also like to know whether camera,FM,Bluetooth etc works with this rom

    ReplyDelete
  5. @Zakir we are on the way to help you but you need to root your device first then only you can uninstall some non useful apps to increase your internal memory.

@sanith: There are two models in HTC sensation, one with beats audio and other is without beats audio. So this rooting article belongs to only Sensation XE users who recently updated their with official Android 4.0.3 ICS. Both devices got official ics updates recently. We are going to provide detailed tutorial for installing ICS on both devices.

    3. Get Token ID
    4. Submit ID
    5. Unlock Bootloader

    Proceed,restart, proceed and Kaboom!!

  14. I rooted my Sensation XE with beats audio (bought in NL), first updated it to the latest official OTA rom, and then began with this procedure.

If you follow it to the letter, it will work fantasticly.

The HTCDEV site is superslow atm, please keep trying over the day.

I now have my CPU clocked to whatever I want to do, to save battery, and I can remove the shitty HTC apps.

    Which one do i choose?
Another question : On the htcdev.com website there's 1 section before Unlock bootlader, it's called "OpenSense SDK", do i have to use it or i have to use only the "Unlock bootloader"?

  84. If Jelly Bean JB update is available you can install it manually by using tools. Nothing can stop you go ahead and root it. Enjoy accessing full privileges of the device.

If you still worrying about rooting will break warranty and no more updates?

Well i have answer for this too you can remove the root access by installing the same update on the device manually. You will get warranty back and updates in the future.

You can enter into clockworkmod recovery if you installed it. Turn off the device, Now Press Volume Down button and Power to start the phone into Bootloader mode.

  109. After doing this, I'm still on S-On and flashing roms requires me to flash the kernel after to get wifi working or get past bootloops. Any ideas?

    Great post btw!

    1. Nothing do with S-ON just you need working clockworkmod recovery for flashing rom's and kernels. One of my friend's device is also S-On he flashed a lot of roms he never get any bootloops and other wifi issues.

  110. I did everything u said. but i'm stuck at step 7.
I renamed the file to CWM5827.img. But when i copied it to te folder, there is no file with that name so i cant replace it.
And it the all in one toolkit there are also different files.
U have cwm5827 touch and doomrecovery etc.
    I only see:
    4EXT
    TWRP2.3.3.0
    Your own recovery.

So i tried your own recovery but notting helped. when i cancelled the action it asks me to manually open a image. But i dont know which.

    NOTE:
I downloaded the HTC all in one rooting kit from the link in your text. but i got the htc sensation toolkit and not the htc one. I thought it wouldnt be a problem, but maybe it is?

  112. No no you dont get it....
I follow all the steps but when i come to step 7 and rename the .IMG file and copy it to the destinated folder, there is no file to replace!

So when i go back to the htc all in one toolkit there are only three options to flash recovery:
    "4EXT"
    "TWRP"
    "Your Own Recovery"

So there is NO option to flash "CWM5827.img"

Is there anyone who knows what to do?

    EXTRA INFO:
I have an HTC Sensation XE and the toolkit is voor Sensation..
Not like here on the website where te toolkit is for HTC ONE.
( I know it shouldn't matter but i think thats te case )

    1. OK do like this copy the IMG file to destination folder which I mentioned in the article.

when you get those three options select your own recovery and location the path, choose the IMG file which you have.

  115. My HTC Sensation XE was succesfully rooted a while ago, but in the meantime there are System software updates available. I download them and pres install, the device shuts down to install. But then the Clockworkmod thing starts up when the phone starts up and says that the installation is aborted and can't install it (the updates), and when I try to install it manually from the .zip file, the same thing happends... And then I have to reboot my system... Why is this happening???

    1. Once the device is root you will not update the phone. If you do the phone will no longer work. For best practice download the latest Update from the web and install it through clockworkmod.

    2. Sorry for the late response, but how do I install updates though Clockworkmod Recovery? And where can I download the latest updates for my HTC Sensation XE on the internet suitable for Clockworkmod? I'm not so familiar with Clockworkmod Recovery so...

    3. you can search on xda forum there you can find latest updates for specific device. Download the package and install through clockworkmod recovery.
