Nokia, the Finnish mobile giant was fast losing its grip on the market and was facing a shrinking market share in the smartphone category in the wake of onslaught from Apple’s iPhone, Blackberry, and Android based smartphones. After the failure of its N series launched with much fanfare, Nokia, gave up on the legendary Symbian platform and shook hands with Microsoft. Nokia Lumia 800 is a hurriedly assembled Windows based smartphone that is believed to be a refined version of N9. It carries the burden of raised expectations and has to shoulder the responsibility of being the flagship model of a company looking to it with great hopes for future. Let us take a closer look at this phone.
Display and Design:
Nokia Lumia 800 is equipped with 3.7 inch AMOLED capacitive multi touch screen (16M colors) that produces a resolution of 480 X 800 pixels with (252 ppi pixel density). The combination of both ClearBlack OLED screen and AMLOED technology gives excellent visual experience and also the pictures in the phone look so sharp and crispy. The brightness and sharpness of display is outstanding and user can read and see the text matter clearly even under broad daylight. It also has Gorilla Screen which is unbreakable and scratch proof.
Nokia has designed the phone with a eye catching curved polycarbonate chassis which will give you richer handset look. The Dimension is 116.5X61.2X12.1mm and it weighs 142g, thus being heavier than both Apple’s iPhone and Galaxy smartphones by Samsung. The phone has proximity sensor to save on battery by going off when the user is away. It also has an accelerometer and a digital compass.
Operating System:
Nokia Lumia 800 has Microsoft Windows Phone 7.5 Mango OS. Mango is the latest stable update for wp7 which brings major improvements on Multitasking, Sync the contacts and inbox emails, battery backup extend further when compared to previous update, Bing search also working great without any bugs, inbuilt browser quite seems fast, touch and GUI responds more faster, Bing Maps with A-GPS providing accurate information of yours current position.
Processor RAM and Memory Storage
The phone is packed with a 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon single core processor which is enough to handle more applications running on simultaneously background without any lagging. It has 512 MB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage with no card slot to increase the memory using micro SD cards. Seems to be more number of windows phone available in the market is not equipped with expandable memory. I know it will annoy you; there are a lot of users storing their important and entertainment stuff on the memory card itself. But this time those people will think about it before buying the phone
Camera:
For those people who are fond of clicking pictures, it has a rear camera with 8 MP camera with a maximum resolution of 3264X2448 pixels. It is equipped with a Carl Zeiss optical lens, auto focus and has dual LED flash which will be helpful to take pictures in low light conditions. It’s too bad to say the phone doesn’t have front facing camera for high quality video calling. The phone has basic camera enhancements like geotagging, image stabilization, night mode and smile detection.
It can make HD videos in 720p resolution with 30 frames per second. The phone have dedicated camera button on right side which is more convenient to take pictures faster without missing any moment. While we have tested the camera on outside, the photo came out from phone is extraordinary without any noise, contrast, white balance, saturation levels are managed very well. Nokia has especially concentrated on camera section to make the phone into Digital camera level. Finally one word to say the camera of Nokia Lumia 800 is unbelievable.
Connectivity
Nokia lumia 800 have more number of connectivity options like Wi-Fi802.11b/g/n, GPS with A-GPS, GPRS, EDGE, Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP+EDR, micro USB v2.0, SMS(threaded view), MMS, Push Email, IM and stereo FM radio with RDS. It provides good HSDPA speeds of 14.4 Mbps and HSUPA speeds of 5.76 Mbps.
Music
The music experience in Nokia Lumia 800 windows phone 7 is quite good. There is manual option to change the equalizer settings according to your music interest. The phone comes with decent quality headphone with mic but it is not earbud model, you need to buy separate earphones to enjoy the nonstop music.

Xbox live is the excellent feature that makes windows phone 7 very big successful in the mobile market. The phone have equipped with powerful Aderno 205 Graphics which is sufficient to play all kind of games. The smartphone is a letdown for those who already had the privilege of 64 GB of storage with their N9 phones. Lumia also has just 512 MB of RAM instead of 1GB of RAM in N9. The phone has a good camera at the rear but it does not have a secondary camera for taking self portraits. Even the rear camera does not allow making HD videos in 1080p. Even the processor is single core instead of customary dual core processors in smartphones today. However, the display is sharp and the styling of the phone is a saving grace for this smartphone.
